THE PROBLEM WITH CHANGE

Change is a concept most people accept in theory, recognizing that it often leads to personal growth and improvement. Yet, despite this general agreement, genuine change can be elusive. Many struggle with motivation, experience failure in their attempts, or feel overwhelmed by defeat. Sometimes, pride and stubbornness hold them back, allowing change only on their terms. However, change in life is inevitable and multifaceted, with spiritual transformation standing as the most important. If there is no inner spiritual change taking place, failure is certain. If there has been some success in change without inner spiritual transformation taking place, it is only superficial behavioral change, and that can never be lasting.

From a biblical viewpoint, true change transcends superficial behavior modification; it begins deep within the heart. The Scriptures teach that the heart is the wellspring of our desires, motives, and actions. Jesus highlights this in Matthew 15:19, while James 4:1-3 emphasizes the internal conflicts that influence our choices. Thus, the heart acts as the “control center” of our lives, governing what we do based on what we treasure internally. http://Getting-to-the-Heart.docx

God’s Word serves as the primary instrument for spiritual change, shaping believers to reflect the character of His Son. This transformation is not merely about becoming a better person in a general sense; rather, it aims to align us with God’s purpose, pleasing Him by embodying Christ’s likeness. When this internal renewal occurs, it naturally influences every facet of our lives, fostering growth both spiritually and personally.

Many feel frustrated by the difficulty of change because the struggle is internal. Something within resists, pulling us away from transformation. However, understanding the biblical principles behind change offers a pathway to overcoming this inner battle.

In essence, meaningful change is a heart-level encounter that reshapes our desires and motives, leading to authentic transformation that radiates outward. This spiritual journey is the foundation for lasting growth and fulfillment.
